Green Elementary School honored two students this month. Evie Sluss was recognized for her kindness and commitment to including others. She participates in adaptive PE and enjoys soccer, drawing, and reading. Claire Andrew was also honored for her leadership and strong work ethic. She participates in gymnastics and is known as a positive role model in her classroom. At Green Middle School, an eighth grader was selected by the math and science teaching team as April student of the month. She was praised for her kindness, her genuine care for others, and her ability to balance athletics and academics. Green High School honored two seniors of the month. One plans to study civil engineering at The Ohio State University in the fall. The other plans to attend Xavier University to study biology and health administration. A paraprofessional was recognized for her positive energy and consistent support of both students and staff. A band and general music teacher at Green Middle School was praised for his enthusiasm, organization, and the joy he brings to his students every day. Board Business The board voted unanimously on all items. Minutes from the March 23 regular meeting were approved, along with the financial statement and payment of bills for March 2026. A $500 donation from the Committee to Elect Katie Reid in support of the Bulldog Dash was accepted. The board approved two field trips. The Green High School boys basketball team will attend a camp in Sherrodsville, Ohio from June 14 through 16. The Green High School choir will travel to New York City from March 18 through 22, 2027. The board also approved a second reading of updated board policies covering travel expenses and food service guidelines, along with other revisions tied to state law updates. Google for Education Contract Renewed The board approved a three-year renewal of its Google Workspace for Education Plus license. The agreement is priced at $21,505.50 in year one and $23,895 in each of years two and three. As a one-to-one Chromebook district, Google is a core tool for daily instruction. The multi-year agreement locks in pricing and helps the district meet online student safety requirements under state law. Canvas will remain the district's learning management system. Community Mourns Sammy Refe Board members returned to the loss of Sammy Refe throughout the meeting, expressing gratitude for how the school district, city leadership, Mayor Jurgen, and first responders supported the community. A vigil was held the evening before the meeting at Central Park. Board President Campbell encouraged anyone still feeling the weight of the loss to reach out. "If people need help or if they are feeling that loss, please talk to someone," he said. "Talk to your parents, talk to your teachers, talk to your counselors. We have a lot of resources here in the community." Looking Ahead The next board meeting is scheduled for May 18. Commencement for the Class of 2026 is scheduled for May 27.
