GREEN, Ohio – A 48-year-old Seville, Ohio man was arrested and charged with a first-degree felony after a cold case rape investigation yielded a DNA profile match. The suspect is currently being held at the Summit County Jail following an intensive investigation by local and state law enforcement agencies. Cold Case Rape Investigation Reopened After Decades The incident dates back to February 15, 2000, when a 26-year-old female reported that she had been raped by an unknown male suspect inside her personal vehicle. Although the Summit County Sheriff’s Office immediately initiated an investigation, detectives at the time were unable to identify a suspect, establishing only that the crime occurred at an unknown location in or near the City of Green. A Sexual Assault Collection Kit was completed during the initial 2000 response, and a single-sample male DNA profile was obtained but could not be linked to any known subjects at the time. Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) Yields Match In January 2026, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (B.C.I.) successfully identified and confirmed the unknown suspect's DNA profile after a recent upload to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Following the positive biometric match, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau officially reopened the cold case rape investigation to reexamine evidence from the initial file. Felony Charges and Arrest in Summit County Detectives reviewed the initial and secondary investigations alongside the Summit County Prosecutor's Office to formally file criminal charges. On June 25, 2026, the 48-year-old male suspect from Seville was taken into custody without incident and charged with Rape, a felony of the first degree.
